IET Savoy Place Workshop

On Friday 8th July 2022, I attended an IET Scholars and Bursars Workshop in IETs Savoy Place Venue. It was a great chance to meet other like minded scholars from around the country and get in touch with my local IET network. There were a number of excellent talks on varying topics related to professional development (also contributing 7 hours of CPD):

• Time Management

• Building a CV

• Effective Negotiation

From the Time Management talk, I learnt a lot about time-blocking, an excellent method which helps people in being successful with their daily (and long-term) goals.

From the Building a CV talk, the importance of maintaining an up-to-date log of achievements was emphasised, and continues to be one of the reasons I run this website.

From the Effective Negotiation talk, practical social skills (in an engineering context: interviews, dealing with clients/suppliers/managers/sales etc) were introduced in a variety of examples, aiming to help us achieve the best outcomes from interactions with others. This was, in my opinion, the most useful talk which I continue to employ in my day-to-day life.
